¬†Last Thursday, Stephen Pound, MP for Ealing North took centre stage to re-launch St Vincent's Family Centre, Hanwell, after major refurbishments made possible by the generosity of comedian, Frank Skinner. Unable to attend the launch because of his filming schedule for the Frank Skinner Show, Frank nonetheless sent his good wishes and said: "I am really pleased that something of such lasting value to children and their families has come from my appearance on Celebrity 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'". In his place, Stephen Pound said, 'We are not just looking at a physical transformation of the building, but a transformation in the lives and hopes of the children, brought about by the miraculous therapeutic work of the therapists at St Vincent's. The event was hosted by Bishop Bernard Longley, Chairman of the Catholic Children's Society (Westminster), which runs the project locally and was attended by local officials and supporters of St Vincent's. St Vincent's Family Centre offers counselling and therapy for individuals and family groups, regardless of faith, who are experiencing problems that are affecting their personal health and happiness and the future stability of the family. Due to the unexpected windfall gift of £125,000 from Frank Skinner, the Society was able to allocate £100,000 to undertake much hoped for re-structuring and refurbishments. The completed work has made the Centre more welcoming for parents and children and new play-therapy rooms will enable the team of therapists to undertake group sessions with greater numbers of children and adolescents, particularly around the issues of bereavement and separation.
