London: workshop on AIDS, Faith and Hope
Comment Email Print
¬†A day-long workshop to look at ways of supporting people with HIV/AIDS takes place at Vaughan House, behind Westminster Cathedral, on Saturday, 15 May. The event: AIDS, Faith and Hope, is sponsored by Catholics for AIDS Prevention & Support (CAPS) and Westminster Diocese's Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry (CATHAM). The workshop is also being supported by the African community-based group, Innovative Vision Organisation (IVO). The day is being held in response to requests, especially from Catholics living with HIV, for a safe space in which issues of faith and the demands of living with HIV can be shared. The workshop will also aim to identify how the resources of Catholic faith and practice, including the Church's sacraments, prayer, and community support, can be be used to enable and empower all in the Church to live more positively with HIV. People living with HIV/AIDS will have a key role to play in the day. There will also be a presentation by Ann Smith, from CAFOD, exploring how to develop a more joined-up approach to the challenges of HIV/AIDS. A spokesperson said: "We hope this will mark the beginning of a continuing process of action, reflection and support, rather than just be another one-off conference. We believe this provides an exciting opportunity for all concerned to re-establish responses to HIV/AIDS challenges as central to the Church's pastoral agenda." The workshop takes place at Vaughan House, 46 Francis Street, London SW1, on Saturday, 15 May from 10.30 am - 4pm. Tickets are £2.50.
