Cycle for Norfolk's historic churches
Comment Email Print
The Norfolk Churches Trust Bicycle Ride is calling for cyclists to take part in their 21st sponsored bicycle ride which takes place on 11 September. Norfolk has nearly 1,000 churches, 659 of which are medieval. Organiser Brian Iles explained the ride is an important fundraiser which helps to ensure that these beautiful and historic buildings are restored and remain open as places of worship. Brian said more than 800 churches are taking part. He said: "This really is an opportunity to see some places of worship which are not generally open or are off the beaten track. We try to encourage participants to create routes which allow them to explore. This means they are able to raise more funds not only for their own nominated church but for others too. You don't have to be a churchgoer to take part. Some riders have interests in historical buildings and others just enjoy a good day's cycling. So long as they get their forms validated and finish by 5pm we don't mind." Sponsorship forms and the list of participating churches/chapels will be available from local churches, the Norfolk Churches Trust office on 01603 767576 or at www.edp24.co.uk/bikeride
