New Prior of Aylesford
Comment Email Print
Fr Francis Kemsley, currently Prior and Parish Priest at Faversham, Kent has been appointed the new Prior of Aylesford following the Provincial Chapter which took place at Easter. He was born in Chatham in 1954 and attended St John Fisher School in Chatham. He was professed as a Carmelite friar in 1974 and for a number of years was a member of the Aylesford community. He was ordained in 1992 and worked at English Martyrs, Walworth which is a parish cared for by the Carmelites. He was then appointed Prior of the community at East Finchley and for the last three years has been Parish Priest at Faversham. Fr Francis recently gained an MA in Marian Studies and he has been an active member of the Carmelite Forum that promotes Carmelite Spirituality and draws on all the gifts of the Carmelite tradition. Besides his theological interests he is a keen horticulturist having studied in his early years in the Order at Hadlow College. He is delighted to be coming to Aylesford as he's known the priory since his earliest years and for him it's very much a homecoming. He will be taking up his new rle at the beginning of July.
