Ireland celebrates her missionaries
Comment Email Print
¬†October in Ireland this year has been dedicated to missionaries. The official launch of Mission Month took place at Maheramore, Wicklow on 1 October. A call to prayer was followed by a pilgrimage walk to the beach where a boat was blessed. Two religious missionaries going to Sudan and Guinea were symbolically launched and sent on their mission. The theme of the Mission Month is 'Witness to the Faith'. The lives of 14 Irish missionaries who were killed on foreign soil will be commemorated in parishes around the country. (For details of services see the Irish Catholic Media Office website: ) There will be a nationally televised Mass this Sunday, 16 October. Mission Sunday takes place on 23 October. On 30 October parishes are being invited to a National Mass in Dublin, at which Archbishop SeŠn Brady, President of the Irish Episcopal Conference, will be chief celebrant. See the next ICN story for profiles of of the 14 who gave their lives.
