Cardinal congratulates Abigail Witchalls on birth of son

¬†The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, has sent Abigail Witchalls and her husband Benoit his "warmest congratulations" on the birth of their son Dominic. The baby was born weighing 5lbs 6oz on Friday afternoon at St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London. He has since been given the name Dominic Adrian Witchalls. The Cardinal said the baby was a "gospel-maker", because he was the bearer of good news. The media have followed anxiously the fate of the 26-year-old mother since she was stabbed in the neck at a lane near her home in Surrey in April. Her 21-month-old son, Joseph, witnessed the attack, which left Abigail severely paralysed. She was already expecting the baby when the attack occurred. On 3 November, more than six months after she was first admitted, Abigail was discharged from hospital. She can now eat, speak, move her arm and hand and sit in a wheelchair. Directing himself specifically to Abigail, the Cardinal said in his letter: "Abigail ≠ you have been an inspiration for so many people. May the Lord Jesus sustain you, give you his grace and consolation in your trials and may your mutual love grow stronger and deeper." Source: Archbishop's House
