Southall centre launches course on Islam
Comment Email Print
¬†De Nobili House in Southall will be holding a 10-week course on Islam beginning on 26 April. Dr Chris Hewer, an expert on Muslim-Christian relations, has pioneered the unique series of talks to help Christians understand better the religion and culture of Islam. For many years, Dr Hewer was the inter-faith adviser to the Bishop of Birmingham, and now works for the St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation in the City of London. The course has been arranged by Father Michael Barnes SJ, the Director of Studies for the Centre for Christianity and Inter-religious Dialogue at Heythrop College. Based at de Nobili House, Fr Barnes and the Jesuit community at Southall provide a hospitable space within which people of faith can meet together and learn about different beliefs in an atmosphere of prayer and trust. "It is important that this house is used as a resource for inter-faith dialogue of all kinds, for sharing information, for hosting and enabling inter-faith events and meetings, and for supporting initiatives in the local area," says Fr Barnes. "In these times, it is vital that Christians learn about our Muslim brothers and sisters, and vice versa." The dialogues entitled 'Understanding Islam' run from April 26 to July 12 (excluding May 17 and 31). For more information, contact Michael Barnes ≠ 020 8571 1833 ≠ m.barnes@heythrop.ac.uk
