Jesuit centre hosts Festival of Festivals

¬†The De Nobili Inter-faith Centre in Southall, Middlesex, is holding a Festival of Festivals on Saturday, 21 October, as several major religious festivals coincide. This year, the Hindu and Sikh feast of lights, Divali, is days away from Eid al Fitr, the Muslim feast which ends the fast of Ramadan. At the beginning of the month, Jews celebrated Yom Kippur, the feast of Atonement (October 2); and at the end, Christians will celebrate the feast of All Saints - November 1 October also sees two other festivals ≠ Baha'is commemorate the birth of the Bab and Jains the nirvana of Mahavira. Members of all these faiths will be gathering at De Nobili House on Saturday at 5pm to celebrate together - with quiet prayer, readings from the various faith traditions, and meditation. This will be followed by a tour of some of the places of worship to be found in Southall. People will then reassemble at De Nobili House for refreshments and a massive fireworks display. Southall is one of the most diverse multi-cultural districts in Britain. De Nobili House is named after Roberto de Nobili (1577 ≠ 1656), an Italian Jesuit who worked as a missionary in India. The Jesuits who work at the Dialogue Centre provide a hospitable space where people of different faiths can meet in an atmosphere of prayerful peace and mutual respect. It is situated at 6 Osterley Park Road, Southall, Middx UB2 4BL. Since the area is likely to be very busy over the weekend, the organisers of the Festival of Festivals recommend public transport to get to Southall. Source: Jesuit Communications
