Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins today
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins today. Hundreds of events will be taking place around the world on this day. In Westminster Abbey, a special service to commemorate the anniversary, will be held in the presence of the four Presidents of Churches Together in England: the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian, Primate of the Armenian Church of Great Britain, and Commissioner Betty Matear of the Salvation Army. at 5pm. The Service will be conducted by the (newly-appointed) Dean of Westminster, the Very Revd Dr John Hall. No tickets are required and all are welcome. A little earlier this afternoon, at 4.30pm, the Choir of St Paul's Cathedral will sing at Westminster Cathedral to sing Evensong.
