Day out for altar servers
Comment Email Print
¬†Following the success of the first fun-day for altar servers last year at Alton Towers, the Archconfraternity of St Stephen - the altar servers' guild - is organising another event scheduled for Thursday, 7 August. National Director, Fr Dennis Towu - who is also parish priest of St Gregory the Great, South Ruislip, Middlesex - was the originator of the idea to provide Guild members nationwide the opportunity of a family day out at reasonable expense. "The day at Alton Towers last year was a qualified success," he said, "as we only attracted about 800 members and their families. But then, this was our first attempt, from which we have learned a great deal. "This year, our programmed publicity has started much earlier. We delivered over a thousand fliers to the servers from all over the country who attended the Servers' Mass at Westminster Cathedral on May 3rd which was celebrated by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor. The Cardinal is also the Superior General of the Guild." The flyers also incorporate the booking form for servers and their families and they offer the special ticket cost of £18 per adult and £16 per child. These can be obtained from then should be returned to The Presbytery, 447 Victoria Road, South Ruislip, HA4 0EG, 30 June.
