Ugandan rebels have killed an Italian priest in a roadside ambush, the New Vision newspaper reports this week. Father Raffaele Di Bari was shot dead as he drove to church at Acholi Bur, near the town of Kitgum. The 71-year-old, who was travelling with a nun and some children, had been due to say Mass at the church. The nun and children survived the attack. Army chief Colonel Julius Oketta said the priest had been warned many times about rebel activity in the area but defied orders and went ahead with his journey. Father Di Bari, who worked in Pajule, had served in Uganda since 1959.
