Carmelites
publish Lenten reading for Wales
Saint Albert's Press, the publishing house of the British Province
of Carmelites, has produced a set of Bible meditations at the
request of the Catholic bishops of Wales.
Backwards into the Future: Meditations on the Letter to the Hebrews is written by Fr John FitzGerald, O.Carm, a celebrated lecturer, philosopher, translator, poet, and pastor, who has lived most of his adult life as part of a community of Carmelite friars in Wales.
According to Mr Johan Bergström-Allen, the editor of Saint Albert's Press, "Fr John's publication reminds Christians of all denominations of the vital importance of reading the Word of God. We are delighted to have collaborated on this project with the hierarchy of Wales, and are confident that Fr John's work will prove popular, both in the Lenten season, and throughout the year."
The book, translated from Welsh into English for the first time at the request of the bishops, is expected to be a source of spiritual nourishment used by individuals, groups, and parishes; indeed anyone wishing to make Christ central in their lives.
In addition to Fr John's reflections, the book contains a guide to Lectio Divina, the ancient practice of prayerfully contemplating the Bible, written by the celebrated theologian Fr Carlos Mesters, O.Carm.
The book is available to order from: The Friars Bookshop, The Friars, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7BX, Tel: 01622 715770, E-mail: bookshop@thefriars.org.uk
