What would you put on the Pope's iPod?

Contemporary Catholic songwriters Boyce & Stanley have sent Pope Benedict an iPod with their latest album on it and they are asking people for their
suggestions for the other music the Pope should listen to.

The Birmingham-based duo have sent their latest album Age to Age, on iPod for the Papal seal of approval and secretly hope that Pope Benedict might even enjoy listening to it.

They have also contacted Apple, who manufacture the iPod, in the hope that they may offer His Holiness some free downloads from their online iTunes
store.

Mike Stanley, who plays guitar and sings in the duo, said: "We'd be delighted to know that the Pope enjoyed our versions of classic hymns. But it got us wondering what he listens to himself. My guess would be classical or choral music, but it would be fascinating to find out what other tunes he would add."

Joanne Boyce added: :There is much talk in church circles at the moment about the inappropriateness of contemporary instruments like drums and guitars in favour of the more traditional sounds of organ and choir. However, our experience over the last 11 years suggests it need not be an either/or, situation but rather both/and. What really matters is the standard of musicianship and the truth it seeks to express."

The album will be released in the UK on September 15 with launches taking place in both Birmingham and London on Wednesday September 12 and Thursday September 13.

The album features new arrangements of many of the best-loved, classic Catholic hymns that are etched onto the lips and hearts of churchgoers of all ages.
