London
bands in benefit gig for Zimbabwean school
Up and coming bands the Maydays, the Strand and Red Roots, will
be performing in a charity gig in Brixton, south west London,
this Saturday to raise funds for a Jesuit school in Zimbabwe.
The night, at the Dogstar in Brixton, south
London, will also feature DJ Dom Roberts.
Two band members are related to a British Jesuit based in London. The event is being held to raise money to help build a classroom at St Peter's Primary School in Harare. Established by the Jesuits in 1963 (when Rhodesia was part of the British Province), St Peter's is able to reach out, unite and give hope to a vast population of disadvantaged and desperate people. Starting with just eight pupils, it now educates around 1,300, and maintains its original policy of never turning a child away. More information about St Peter's school can be found on the Jesuit Missions website: http://www.jesuitmissions.org.uk/
Tickets are £5 each, available by
contacting 07749 618354 or emailing: annabb82@hotmail.com. The
gig starts at 8.30 pm at The Dogstar, on the 1st Floor, 389 Coldharbour
Lane, London SW9.
