CAFOD response to Darling's 'Green' Budget

Following the release of the UK Government's new Budget today, George Gelber, Head of Public Policy at CAFOD, said: "The raft of green measures in this year's budget is a welcome step in the right direction. However, these measures do not go far enough to address the urgent and serious threat that climate change presents.

"The Government must be bolder. Economic stability must not come at the cost of climate instability. Delaying vital action now will mean paying a higher price later.

"If industrialised countries fail to address the challenge of climate change it will be the poorest in the world who will unfairly have to pay the price. They have done the least to cause the problem and have the fewest resources to adapt. Slowing, and ultimately halting, climate change is essential otherwise the Government's good work fighting poverty will be undermined by rising global temperatures."
