Cork City: concert for Zimbabwe
Phil Bergan
Feile Africa an organisation dedicated to promoting African music and culture in Ireland is organising a very special night of music and more at An Spailpin Fanac in Cork this Friday, 12 October. All profits going directly to the Zimbabwean Organisation ZWAAPV(Zimbabwean Women Against Aids, Poverty Violence)
ZWAAPV is a private voluntary organisation formed by Beatrice Karimanzira in 2001 to assist the women of Zimbabwe whose families were threatened by HIV/AIDS. ZWAAPV runs community home-based care programs and teaches about the dangers of unprotected sex through peer education campaigns. It also focuses on the hardships faced by women who lack economic independence; suffer from unfair inheritance practices, and who are restricted by those customary traditions which lack gender sensitivity.
As inflation continues to escalate, making ends meet has become increasingly difficult for ZWAAPV, who are in desperate need of funds and a drop-in centre for the growing numbers of people they assist in the rural area of Murewa.
Performing at the benefit will be Harry J and The Conspiracy, Niwel Tsumbu and friends, DJs Phil B & Fiasco and MC'ing the whole affair Red Fm's own Stevie G Entry fee is ten euro, there's a raffle, a sale of second hand CDs and a special message from ZWAAPV director Beatrice Karimanzira. Feile Africa urge you to come along and enjoy a night of music and dance, and support this very worthwhile cause..
