Cork exhibition on 'life after the tsunami'

'Every time I see the sea - life after the tsunami' - is the theme of an exhibition which will run from 24 November 20 December in 21 Lavitt's Quay gallery, Cork. This remarkable Christian Aid Ireland exhibition remembers the Asian tsunami and tells how lives are being restored after the worst natural disaster in living memory, taking us back to the moment the tsunami struck the countries of the Indian Ocean, killing up to 250,000 people in just a few hours.

Photographer Tim Hetherington and ceramic artist Emma Summers visited parts of Sri Lanka and India most devastated by the tsunami to witness the challenge of rebuilding. Their work captures the remarkable stories of hope that have emerged from the disaster, as well as the magnitude of the challenge.

Their stunning work will feature alongside Jakarta-based photographer Jonathan Perugia's collection of black-and-white portraits of the missing in Indonesia. Also featured are sculpture, film and personal artefacts from Christian Aid partner organisations many of them at the heart of the emergency response in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India.

Visitors will be able to discover what has happened on the ground since the tsunami struck and discover how money raised from the Irish public has been spent through Christian Aid partners. Further information available at www.christianaid.ie.
