Compendium of the Catechism to be published by CTS

The Catholic Truth Society (CTS) have just announced that it will be publishing the new Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church next month.

The Catholic Bishops Conferences of England and Wales, and of Scotland, have appointed CTS to be the exclusive publishers in Britain of the recently completed English-language translation of the Compendium. Publication is set for 31 March 2006.

This 200-page faithful and sure synthesis of the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church has been prepared by the Vatican to promote wide popular access to the teachings and spiritual wisdom of the Church. Modelled closely on the 1992 Catechism, the Compendium comprises four main parts: the Profession of Faith; Celebration of the Christian Mystery; Life in Christ; and Christian Prayer.

The Compendium echoes the format of the well-known 'Penny Catechism' (published by the CTS since 1889): it consists of 598 questions and answers on the Catholic Faith together with an index, but also includes 14 colour masterpieces of Christian art, and a section containing prayers.

Fergal Martin, General Secretary of the CTS, said: "The CTS is delighted to have been given the opportunity to publish this important summary of the Catholic faith.

"The Holy Father has entrusted this Compendium to the entire Church, and especially to every Christian, to every family and community, in order to awaken renewed zeal for evangelisation and education in the faith at the start of the new millennium.

"CTS has a long history of publishing catechisms in this style, so we will ensure that the new Compendium is widely distributed throughout Britain, as a helpful companion for Catholics and other Christians, and a concise introduction for those of other faiths and none."
