Bristol's Catholic students annual retreat
Josué Morales Rizo
Students from the University of Bristol took time out from coursework and their everyday routine for prayer, reflection and sharing with each other what it means to be a Catholic in the world today.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled: Daring to be a Catholic" was the title of this year's retreat organised and directed by the University of Bristol's Catholic Chaplain, Father Robert King. The retreat took place at Our Lady's Homestead in Nympsfield, Gloucestershire.
The retreat included Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, prayers of the Divine Office, Mass, and a series of talks and discussion sessions on the meaning and implications of being a Catholic at the present time.
The discussions centred on issues such as the prophetic role and responsibility of all baptised to bear witness to the Truth in relation to social, political, international and environmental matters in contemporary Britain.
The students also had time to wander around the beautiful fields and woodland surrounding the retreat centre and also paid a visit to the main spots in the village, such as the local church and public house.
The retreat came to a close with evening
Mass at the Chaplaincy on the solemnity of Christ the King, Youth
Sunday: a reminder of the power and omnipotence of our Saviour
and, as Father Robert said, of the need that we have to let him
act and transform us so that we become the persons he wants us
to be.
