Celebrating faith through art

An exhibition of work by more than 30 leading Catholic artists has just opened at the Cotman gallery, King's College School, Southside Common, Wimbledon.

Organised by the Society of Catholic Artists, the secular and religious works can be viewed until 14 February on weekdays from 10am to 3.30pm.

Vice chairman Patrick Pike said he felt art had a particularly important role to play as we enter the new millennium. He said: "Most of the world is concerned with the short term. Art attempts to enable people to see beyond."

One of the exhibitors, Ann Bell, who will be holding her own show at Wells cathedral in March, said: "I'm convinced that art can provide an aid to many who are attracted to the Christian way and who seek to explore its appeal through the senses and the imagination."
