Cardinal Cormac issues Advent message for schools
In a video message to Catholic schools in the Diocese of Westminster, the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, has encouraged young people to use the season of Advent to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and the scriptures.
"Advent and Christmas" says Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor "provide a wonderful opportunity for all of us to deepen our faith and also to share our belief in God with others." The example of the life of Jesus, he says "reminds us that everyone of us is called to preach the message of the Gospel the good news that we are all created and loved by God and called to respond to that love by loving God and other people."
One way of finding out more about Catholic belief and values is through the example of the lives of Saints. In the video Cardinal Cormac asks pupils to draw inspiration from the name of their school, many of which are named after Saints or other Holy men and women who have served the Lord and helped others.

at St Vincent de Paul Primary School in Westminster who reflect
on the life and work of St Vincent de Paul. "There are over
200 Catholic schools in our Diocese of Westminster", says
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, "you should be proud of
the name of your school - it is another way in which the Catholic
faith is spread in the world. If you have just begun school or
have recently moved to a secondary school, please do find out
more about the name of your school - it could inspire your life
and the lives of others."
